Maldives features a hot and humid tropical climate with plenty of sunshine and temperatures ranging from 24 – 33°C all throughout the year. Needless to say, the conditions for diving are perfect all year-round. Home to more than 1000 islands, Maldives is home to some truly amazing and world-class dive sites.
One of the most popular diving sites in the Maldives is Fotteyo Kandu at Vaavu Atoll. This is a beautiful site featuring plenty of fish and corals as well as swim-through, overhangs and caves to explore. There is a thila ( underwater island) in the centre of the channel and the ample food in the area attracts snapper, tuna, jack and reef sharks. Another famous site is the Kuredu Express. This beautiful site, located in the Lhaviyani Atoll gets its name from the current that flows through the channel. Divers can explore a range of different depths at Kuredu Express and enjoy sights of barracuda, eagle rays, stingrays, tuna and reef sharks. Okobe Thila in the North Male Atoll is another great site to catch a glimpse of white-tip reef sharks, tuna, banner fish and plenty of colorful corals. Highly popular with divers is the Broken Rock in South Ari Atoll. This is a unique formation that features a canyon that divides the reef in two. The site is home to large fan corals, turtles, Napoleon wrasse, moray eels, scorpion-fish and beautiful corals.
