With its placement in the southern most end of the Maldives isles, Addu atoll drags with it the whole chain of isles of Maldives to the other side of the equator. This Atoll also holds one of the two main administrative cities of Male while enjoying a culture quite unique to its own.
The atoll is found about 541 km from the Gan isle of Male while its inhabited portion of islands consists of the Addu city while there are also a number of uninhabited islands as well. Addu atoll also enjoys some unique geographical features, being protected from the stormy seas of the region with its extensive barrier reef, while within the island there is a mixture of marshy land and wet land and lakes with coconuts and palms growing in absolute abundance there. On the other hand, being all land locked and surrounded by large islands, the atoll possess a natural harbor that again can experience very little of turbulence with very good safety for sea vessels and with little affectation by the change of season. Four channels run into the atoll that is also well endowed with lakes while in the immediate sea, the population of dolphins and whales are simply breathtaking.
As the main administrative district in the South, Addu atoll attracts considerable attraction from a tourism perspective, with easy access to the world with its international air port and some exotic resorts springing up to cater to the tourists who find residing at this seven islands quite novel and exciting. There is still a perceptible difference to the culture in Addu atoll with its civilians speaking with slightly different accents compared to the rest of Maldivians.
