Museum Location
This museum which is made up of two buildings can be found in Male, the capital of the Maldives; beach resort destinations the likes of Faarufushi Maldives are a relatively short seaplane ride away and one can visit this attraction before heading to the property or flying out of the country.
Age of the Sultans
Amongst the notable exhibits at the MaldivesNational Museum are those that display items used by the sultans who once ruled the nation. Visitors can look forward to seeing attire worn by the sultans, antiques, palanquins, headgear, thrones and even royal furniture.

Of course, there is much more to see as well. On your visit, you can view manuscripts made from cloth, old weapons and armour, musical instruments and items made from stone which date back to the pre-Islamic period; such exhibits will give one an idea of what life was like in days of old.
Other Highlights
As you explore the National Museum in the Maldives make sure to also take in the intricate lacquer-work boxes on display along with items from more modern times; these include the first gramophone and printing press used in the country. A more curious display to view here would be the skeleton of a Longman’s beaked whale measuring six metres!
