Male Atolls
The North and South Male atolls are blessed with countless spots for snorkelling to see palette surgeonfish, bannerfish, oriental sweetlips, turtles, sharks and more. House reefs near the shore are ideal for this activity, while Banana Reef in the North Male Atoll is popular amongst snorkelers and divers alike.
Lhaviyani Atoll
Snorkelling in Lhaviyani Atoll is amongst the best activities to do in Maldives to explore underwater worlds full of reef fish and larger species too like sharks, rays and turtles. The lagoon at Kanifushi Island, home to Atmosphere Kanifushi, is perfect for snorkelling and is home to Picasso triggerfish, lionfish and eagle rays.
Ari Atoll
Featuring impressive coral and marine species alike, the Ari Atoll is another excellent place for underwater adventures. Those going snorkelling here can encounter angelfish, blacktip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays and clownfish; not to be missed is Whale Shark Point where whale sharks can be seen year-round.
Baa Atoll
A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Baa Atoll is great for this activity too especially at Hanifaru Bay from May to November; during this period, zooplankton gets trapped in the bay attracting hundreds of manta rays and even some whales sharks, giving you the chance to go snorkelling amidst these intriguing creatures of the deep.
