So, you’ve seen all those amazing pictures (no they aren’t edited!) and heard about the hundreds of wonderful experiences travelers have had in the Maldives. Is it now your dream destination as well? If you are planning a trip to the Maldives here are a few interesting things to know.
Over 1000 islands
The Maldives is made up of over a thousand islands, 1190 to be precise and some are so tiny, you are not likely to notice them even on a birds-eye view photograph from a satellite. Although this is so, only about 200 islands are actually inhabited and your beach resort in Maldives the likes of OBLU SELECT at Sangeli would be spread out across an entire small island.
Some islands are man-made
Not all the islands in this archipelago are natural islands that popped up due to the eruption of volcanoes. There are a few islands that were artificially made and today, they are bustling towns with paved walkways, houses, shops, and even a shoreline.
Bioluminescent beaches
Yes, there are a few shores in the Maldives that bring the night sky to your feet through the ocean. These waters contain a microorganism that glows when night falls making these beaches look absolutely magical!
Muslim population
All the locals in the Maldives are followers of Islam and therefore, the Muslim customs are strictly followed here. This applies to all those visiting the islands as well, especially when traveling to locally inhabited islands.
