Although Artificial Beach is one of the most captivating beaches in the Maldives, only a few tourists venture down to it. Here’s what’s so special about this manmade seaside haven.
Getting There
Conveniently located 7km away from Male’s Velana International Airport, Artificial Beach is a 20-minute drive away from the city centre. Those who are based at Adaaran Maldives and other resorts outside of the capital will need to travel to Male to experience this stunning beach on the eastern shores of Male Island. Tourists who wish to take the bus can hop on buses numbered 101, 402 or 401, which are accessible from downtown Male, or take a speedboat to the Hulhumale Ferry Terminal.
Dress Code
It is important for women who plan to visit Artificial Beach to be aware of the dress code restrictions that apply to this public beach, which are not the same as those for resort islands. Swimwear is not permitted and women should dress in covered casual clothing. However, there are no specific dress codes in place for young children.
Wining and Dining
Artificial Beach is considered one of Male’s prime dining hubs. A whopping twenty-three restaurants line this 500-metre-long beach and serve up a wide range of culinary delights. Other nearby attractions that one can easily tour after a beach day include The National Museum and Sultan Park. The Grand Friday Mosque and Male Fish Market are both located within walking distance of the beach.
Water Sports
As one of the best activities to do in Maldives, water sports are not restricted to the outer atolls. Parasailing is just one of the many water-bound things to do during a day at Artificial Beach.
