The Maldives, a tropical paradise scattered across the Indian Ocean, is known for its turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and vibrant marine life. Planning a trip here is best approached with a few key points in mind: understanding local customs, knowing the best times to visit, and familiarising yourself with the island-hopping system and resort options.
Ideal Times to Visit
The peak season in the Maldives runs from November to April. Between May and October, prices tend to be lower. During our visit in August, the islands felt nearly deserted with very few tourists. While brief showers can happen in June and July, they usually pass quickly, and the sun soon returns.
Travel Between Islands
All types of sea transport connect the main port to your destination island, including ferries, speed boats, and seaplanes. Ferries are slow, seaplanes are scenic but expensive, while speed boats are highly recommended for convenience and efficiency. With these options, getting to a place like the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is a cinch.
Watersports and Adventures
How could one visit the islands without going on a Maldives marine tour? Snorkelling in the Maldives is simple and often free, with masks available for rent at most accommodations, and many islands offering coral reefs accessible right from the shore. For encounters with sharks, whale sharks, or deeper ocean life, scuba diving is a must.
Maldivian Cuisine

Maldivian cuisine is a treat for the senses! Staying on a local island offers the chance to enjoy authentic flavours made from fresh, local ingredients. From aromatic fish curries to flavourful street snacks, each dish provides a delicious glimpse into the Maldivian scene.
