Those looking to enjoy a sightseeing tour of attractions in Maldives should look to add Mulee’aage Palace to their itinerary which is quite a charming place to see.
Location of Mulee’aage
This well-known site can be found in Male, an island which happens to be the capital of the Maldives; places to visit such as this attraction are located in the Henveiru locale and it stands across from another famous structure, the historical Old Friday Mosque.
Planning a Visit
While you cannot go inside Mulee’aage Palace since it is an official residence, it still makes quite a nice site to view and photograph. Some island resorts the likes of Adaaran Club Rannalhi offer Male City tours so you can easily take in this colonial-style structure with its distinctive blue and white walls, red roof and picturesque garden.
A Bit of History
This attraction in Male dates back to the early 1900s and was originally built for Prince Hassan Izzuddin by the then Sultan, Muhammad Shamsuddeen III. Through the years it served different purposes including being a prime minister’s office and Supreme Court before subsequently becoming the official residence of the president.
The Central Tomb
A key part of Mulee’aage Palace is the Medhu Ziyaaraiy which translates to “Central Tomb”. Within this tomb lies Abul Barakat Yoosuf Al Barbary, a Moroccan scholar who is believed to have brought Islam to the Maldives in 1153.
