In July 2020, the Maldives, after months of travel restrictions due to COVID-19, opened its international borders for tourists; here are some things to know when planning your holiday.
Entering the Country
While travellers do not have to undergo mandatory quarantine when arriving at this Indian Ocean nation, as of September, they need to show a negative PCR test certificate for COVID-19; the test should have been conducted a maximum of 72 hours before departure. Health declaration forms, health screenings and temperature checks are included in the arrival process.
Staying at Resorts
When it comes to staying at resorts Maldives has to offer, those arriving in the country should have a booking that is confirmed at a registered tourist facility; this includes properties the likes of Niyama Private Islands Maldives which are following guidelines in accordance with the World Health Organization and Maldivian Health Ministry.
Within the Resort
Stringent hygiene and health protocols have been put in place at resorts to protect guests and staff. Rooms are regularly disinfected and cleaned, while some properties even provide each guest with a personal hygiene kit that has hand sanitizer, a facemask and antibacterial wipes. Social distancing is also practiced at public spaces such as restaurants.
Other Measures
In the Maldives, resorts are taking other measures too; this includes having a doctor and nurse on-call 24/7 and a dedicated COVID-19 task force as well as providing the necessary health and safety training to all staff. Additionally, some properties do not allow outside visitors to the island apart from their guests.
