Its Location
It can be found in the nation’s capital, Male and can be visited before or after your stay at hotels in Maldive Island including the likes of Adaaran Select Meedhupparu. Enjoying a central location, the site is walking distance from the Male pier and stands across from the well-known Old Friday Mosque.
Some History
Muleeaage or Mulee’aage dates to the early 1900s when Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III had a colonial-style bungalow built for his son Prince Hassan Izzuddin who was studying in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). Through the years it has served many purposes and in 1953, became the president’s residence.
What to Expect
Today, this site continues to be the official residence of the president; though you won’t be able to go inside, you can get some shots of the building with its striking walls of blue and white, red roof and picturesque garden. Nearby is Medhu Ziyaaraiy that houses the tomb of the Moroccan scholar who introduced the nation to Islam.
