The Maldives, as you must be already knowing, is the homeland of Sunni Muslims. So, most of the festivals you see in this country have a strong Islamic influence. In addition to them, there are nationally significant festivals too.
Ramadan
During the entire Ramadan month, the Muslim community observes 30 days of fasting. This festival is also known as ‘Rodra Mas’ in the Maldives. Many religious observances happen during this time and charity projects too.
Eid-Ul-Adha
This is another religious festival celebrated by the Maldivians. There are many other names for the same festival such as ‘Eid-e Qorban’, ‘Qurbani Eid’ and the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’.
The Independence Day
One of the most important Maldives celebrations is Independence Day. It falls on 26th July every year and the day is filled with parades, rallies, and diverse shows. The Maldives also has two other nationally important days such as the National Day and the Republic Day.
