When it comes to surfing in the Maldives, the Male Atoll is the best region of the Maldives to be in. It also offers a wonderful environment for a family holiday. Here are a few tips to remember if you are planning a surfing trip to the Maldives.
Surfing in the Male Atolls
During peak season, this area of Maldives sees quite a number of surfers on the beaches of the islands. Professional and intermediate surfers find the waves here a treat. The surf breaks in North Male include Chicken’s, Lohis, and Cokes. Hotels like Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives also provide a wonderful family experience in addition to great waters.
Surfing in southern Maldives
If you are a daring surfer, the southern region of Maldives is the best place for you to surf. Beacon waves are the most popular here. Blue Bowls, Five Islands and Love Charms however are quality waves that are easier to ride.
Surfing in central Maldives
This area isn’t as popular for its swells as the North Male, but it certainly has some quality waves. The Ying Yang waves are the most popular here.
When to go
If you are planning on a surfing trip, the best time to visit would be between April and October when the waves in north Male are at its best. But beware of the crowds, you will also have to book your beach resort in Maldives well in advance.
