Sea turtles are fascinating creatures that have been swimming in the oceans since the earliest ages. They migrate to the very same beaches that they were born for breeding purposes.
Olive Ridley Sea Turtles
Also known as Pacific Ridley Sea Turtles, these are the smallest turtles primarily found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They are mostly carnivorous and feed on snails, shrimp, and jellyfish. They accommodate a unique mass nesting known as ‘arribada’ where hundreds and thousands of females get together on the same beach to lay eggs.
Green Sea Turtle
Green Sea Turtle is the only herbivore of its kind. And contrary to popular belief, these turtles aren’t green in colour but are named thus due to the greenish tinge of their cartilage and fat.
Hawksbill Sea Turtle
Unlike Olive Ridleys, Hawksbill Sea Turtles nest in low densities on small beaches. This is one of the frequently spotted sea turtles in the Maldives. This turtle has a beautifully coloured shell that helps it to camouflage among coral reefs. You can even look forward to spotting one or two of these species during an underwater excursion while holidaying at a Maldives pool villa offered by a property such as Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas.
Loggerhead Sea Turtle
Loggerheads are given their name due to their overly large heads that also feature horny beaks that are thicker than the others of their kind. These turtles are omnivorous.
