The Maldives has much to offer for those planning a getaway be it with that special someone, the family or even by yourself. Here’s a quick guide that will help you prepare.
Atolls & Islands Galore
Featuring 26 atolls, the country is not one island but in fact, made up of more than 1,000 islands! While Maldivians reside on local islands, you also get private islands, each home to its own luxury resort the likes of Kurumba Maldives. You even get quite a number of small uninhabited islands, ideal for a quiet getaway.
Local Customs & Laws
The Maldives is a Muslim country and follows strict laws and customs that you should adhere to. While alcohol is prohibited on local islands, this law does not apply to those staying at a Maldives resort on a private island. Do also keep in mind that though you can wear swimsuits and short casual clothing on island resorts, you need to dress conservatively on local islands.
Getting About
Getting about a country with this many islands means that you have two major forms of transport to consider, namely by sea or air. Islands and resorts can be reached via seaplanes, speedboats or ferries and do check ahead regarding transfer costs.
Tropical Weather
The Maldives enjoys balmy tropical weather with an average temperature ranging from 23ºC to 31º Celsius. The period between November and April is generally the best time to visit; while rains arrive between May and October, these months offer relatively cheaper accommodation too.
