The underwater life in the Maldives is one of the main tourist attractions there and it is no surprise that many of the tourists want to give it a shot. Here are a few species of fish you need to look out for before your excursion into the sea!
Lionfish
Although very rare to spot, these fish are extremely beautiful. However, if one gets bitten, it’s poisonous sting can be rather deadly if not given medical attention immediately. This fish is 3 to 4 inches in size and protect their territory, so be sure to not get too close.
Stingray
Scuba diving in the Maldives is offered by many of the resorts, the likes of Adaaran Prestige Vadoo. During your diving session, it is important to remember that stingrays are quite common in the Maldives and they have a deadly weapon on the tail. However, stingrays will only attack as a means of self-defence and when they do, they go for the critical parts of the body such as the chest and neck.
Sharks
Most of the shark species found in the Maldives are not aggressive unless you actually touch them. However, sharks have very bad vision and rely wholly on their sense of smell so do not carry fish bait or blood when you go snorkelling.
