Renowned for its pristine beachfront and azure blue waters, Dhigurah is often considered to be the most picturesque of Maldives’ islands – which is no small feat! This 3km long strip of paradise on earth is an absolute must-visit if you’re planning on a vacationing in the Maldives!
Reaching the Island
Dhigurah Island is the final island of the South Ari Atoll and is about 2 hours away from the Velana International Airport. You can reach the island either via a domestic flight or by hiring a speedboat, the latter being the best option if you’re travelling from one of the many Maldives island resorts – for example, the Dhigali Maldives.
Hit the Beaches
Pretty much the entirety of the Dhigurah Island’s western side is occupied by pristine beaches. Here the sand is soft and warm while the surrounding waters are calm – it’s a perfect opportunity to go swimming with the family. These beaches also tend to be secluded with very little crowds present – a great opportunity to share an intimate day at the beach with your special someone.
Meet the Marine Life
There are many interesting sea creatures roaming about just under the surface of Dhigurah’s calm waters – the coral reefs, in particular, are beaming with life! But the star attraction here is the colossal whale shark that regularly patrols these waters. So, if you’re feeling up for it, be sure to book a safari tour to get up close and personal with these gentle giants.
A Few Extra Tips
Now before you pack up and head straight to Dhigurah, there are a few things you need to be mindful of. To start off with, there are no ATMs on the island – so plan accordingly! Secondly, be sure to only swim in beaches that are designated as such. Finally, if you’re travelling through the island, be sure to dress somewhat modestly – long sleeves and pants are always a safe bet.
