One of the country’s first dive sites, the Banana Reef in Maldives offers an unforgettable underwater adventure with plenty to discover.
Getting Started
The reef can be found in the North Male Atoll, home to resorts the likes of Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi which offer diving excursions. Banana Reef features a depth range of five to thirty metres and has abundant coral and marine life… more on that coming up!
Best Period
The months between December and May are generally a good period to head to Banana Reef from your Maldives beach resort. That said, it is possible to see creatures such as sharks and manta rays throughout the year here.
Where to Begin
When it comes to a dive at this reef, head to the northeastern end which is characterised by huge caves, rock faces and fascinating overhangs. Even novice divers can explore this site which is a great place to begin your diving adventures.
Marine Life
Apart from the colourful corals that make up the vibrant landscape of Banana Reef, there is a wealth of marine species that can be found here too. On your underwater excursion, you have a chance to see barracudas, grey reef sharks, pufferfish, squirrelfish, Napoleon wrasse, bannerfish, snapper fish, trevallies, soldierfish and moray eels to name but a few!
