You can say that coral reefs are the beating heart of the Maldives, home to colourful marine life, supporting local fishing communities, and acting as a natural defence against erosion and storms. But corals are sensitive (they are actually living organisms) and can be damaged by rising sea temperatures, ocean pollution, changing weather and human interference, of course. That’s why everyone must do their bit to help.

Once planted, the rope goes into the nursery to grow stronger. When the corals are ready, they are moved into a nearby reef to continue rebuilding underwater habitats.
