As if the cascading blue waves of the Maldives weren’t inviting enough to call you into the water, to help you make the most of your holiday, here are some basic tips to note before you take the plunge and go diving.
Organising the Dive
The great news for all those new to diving is that the Maldives doesn’t require a PADI license! But to make sure you are in safe hands it’s best to organise your dives through your accommodation especially if you are staying at a beach resort. Maldives is known for its incredible hospitality and resorts such as Embudu Village will go out of their way to organise your dive for you.
Where to Dive
Whilst the Maldives is one of the most beautiful places in the world to go diving, the sheer choice of dive spots can be overwhelming. Start with the Central Atolls, which are the most popular diving region and great for beginners.
When to Go Diving
As too good as this may sound, you can go diving all year round in the Maldives! Since the island is situated on the equator, it gets more than its fair share of sunshine. That being said, the Maldives does have a wet season for a brief period from June to November but the conditions are still safe enough to go diving.
What to Expect
The clear waters of the Indian Ocean are home to a wide and exciting array of marine wildlife. From sea turtles, manta rays, reef sharks to shoals of colourful fish and stunning coral reefs, prepared to be blown away on your dive.
