The Maldives is the lowest country in the world which means that it is pretty close to sea level. The highest place in the Maldives is just 7 feet and 7 inches above sea level while the average land in the Maldives is just 4 feet and 11 inches above sea level.

In the year 2009, the cabinet of the Maldives did something extraordinary! They had an underwater meeting in the ocean to highlight climate change and create awareness about the fact that the Maldives is slowly sinking due to the effects of global warming.
Medieval currency
Back in ancient times, the Maldivian people used shells as currency. In the present-day currency, you’ll see a cowry shell embedded on the coin depicted the ancient payment methods.
