The Mulee Aage Palace was declared as a government property in 1936 after Muhammad Shamsuddeen III was overthrown from power. Subsequently it was designated as the official residence of the President of the country which was a title that it retained for no less than four decades. The unique architectural style of the building is quite remarkable and is adorned with intricate wooden carvings which are a typical feature of buildings designed in the colonial era.
