Nassimo Thila in Maldives

Widely considered to be one of the best diving sites in the North Male atoll in the Maldives, Nassimo Thila features a fabulous array of caves and rock formations, with an abundance of fish life that will make any foray into the deep truly memorable. Known by the additional monikers of “Lankan Thila”, “Virgin Reef”, and “Paradise Rock”, the Nassimo Thila diving site is the preferred locale of all who visit the North Male Atoll. A prominent feature of the site are the immense pinnacles on its northeast side, which is under the onslaught of the currents and so it boasts a wild, vibrant profusion of soft coral decorating the rock faces and overhangs. Some common marine life to be encountered in this area is the fearsome moray eels, glumpy barracudas, black snapper, and red bass. The caves at the site are between 15-20 metres down along the eastern side. The northern part contains a unique cave carpeted with soft blue coral, and if you are lucky, you may spot a nurse shark or two prowling the interior. As you explore the site further, the southern end contains scorpion fish and cowrie shells, with the flower grouper and the peacock rock cod populating the top section of the reef. The highest point of the dive site contains huge porite coral specimens. In all, this is an intriguing dive site that will open up a world of wondrous sights begging to be captured and preserved from behind the camera lens.
