The history of the human civilisation can be traced back for centuries and the history of the natural world can be traced further even more. Through thousands of years, Earth has experienced a complex process of evolution that has led the human race to this place in time. However, many get caught up in the rat race of life and do not take the time to step back and truly appreciate the myriad of accidents in nature that had to happen for the world to evolve to support life as well as the actions and histories of those that came before us that led us to this modern world. Museums such as Le Louvre in Paris, The Smithsonian in Washington D.C, The Acropolis Museum in Athens and the Vatican Museums in Vatican City seek to trace this history and preserve the greatest moments of mankind for generations to come.
It is, therefore, a shame to not see the national museums of nations when visiting them, whether for business or for pleasure, for a significant understanding of such countries can be lost, if not. Therefore, when visiting the gorgeous cluster of islands in the Indian Ocean, do not be too distracted by the beauty, but experience the cultural, social and historical experience that even an all inclusive Maldives resort cannot offer by visiting the National Museum in Male. For tourists holidaying in places such as Kandolhu island Maldives, Male is a short flight away.
The National Museum of Maldives was established in 1952 with the purpose of instilling patriotic pride among the citizens as well as preserving and displaying the history of the country. Located next to Sultan Park, the Museum houses several collections ranging from royal furniture and coins to armour and textiles. Some of the noteworthy items include a wooden plank from Hukuru Miskiiy, the Old Friday Mosque, which is said to be from the 13th century. Even though some of the pre-Islamic period artifacts which were predominantly Buddhist in nature were damaged or destroyed a few years ago, the National Museum serves as a beautiful reminder of the glorious history of the Republic of Maldives.
