There is so much to explore when it comes to the underwater world in the Maldives and the northern region of this archipelago is said to have rather unspoiled reefs. The Raa Atoll is famous for its high concentration of thilas underwater.

Best time to visit
If you are a diving expert looking to have a good time exploring the underwater, opt for a holiday between January and May where visibility is at its best and the waters are calmer. May to November sees the southwest monsoon which may affect visibility. Nonetheless, you could visit the atoll.
What to see
The Raa Atoll is famous for its pinnacles and thilas. There are overhangs and caverns full of colourful coral and reef fish to be explored. A few sites in the Raa Atoll are home to hard corals which is quite rare in the northern region. Soft corals can also be seen. Not to mention, you will have the chance to observe octopuses or even crustaceans.
Live Board diving
If the sole purpose of your visit to the Maldives is to discover what lies underwater, the best option for you would be a live boarding experience. You can book your vessel and spend your days out at sea simply diving!
Learn diving
If you are new to the subject, well don’t be disappointed. Resorts such as Reethi Faru Resort which are located in the Raa Atoll have their own dive schools where you have the chance to learn the art. All you have to do is book your stay at a Maldives overwater villa and begin the adventure.
