As one of the best island destinations in the world, there’s never a bad time to visit the Maldives. But if you’re the type that craves the heat of the sun and enjoys the prospect of a good dive below the waters, then the region’s dry season from December to April is the perfect time to make your island getaway. Here’s a month-by-month guide to the dry season in the Maldives to help you plan out the perfect diving adventure.
December – The Start of the Dry Season
As the first month of the dry season December brings in more settled weather patterns, particularly in the northern atolls. You’ll find plenty of sun throughout December with improved underwater visibility making it a great time to enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving. You can also take advantage of the festive season to fully enjoy your stay at any of the Maldives 5 star hotels such as the Hard Rock Hotel Maldives.
January
The excellent weather of the dry season continues in January with plenty of sunshine, gentle breezes, clear skies and warm temperatures. The ocean waters are notably calmer during this time and have great visibility for divers and snorkellers looking to explore the ocean depths.
February
The month of February is known for having the best weather in the Maldives with plenty of sunshine and little to no rainfall. With light winds, calm waters and excellent visibility underwater, it is the perfect time to enjoy a deep dive under the water.
March
The dry season in the Maldives continues throughout March with long hot days and little rainfall. March also signals the start of the surf season with the ocean waves starting to take more shape. However, since this is part of the shoulder season, you might not see consistent waves until later in the year.
April – Transitioning to the Monsoon
This is the final month of the peak dry season in the Maldives. It continues to offer great conditions and visibility for diving. However as the month draws to a close, the dry weather gives way to the southwest monsoon with more frequent rainfalls.
