The population of sea turtles are reducing at a drastic rate! It’s only a matter of time before the sea turtles go completely extinct- unless of course proper conservation methods are taken to save and protect these marine creatures.
Maldives
The Maldives are known to provide a safe haven for many turtles who visit the pristine white sands to lay their eggs. If you’re staying at an island resort such as Anantara Veli Maldives Resort, you’ll understand why turtles are attracted to the beach!
Turtles
Two of the most visited types of turtles include the hawksbill and green turtles. If you’re staying at a Maldives bungalow, preferably the over water bungalows, you might be able to spot them swimming around!
Turtle conservation
Most islands and coastal towns around the world would already have conservation methods in place, as there would usually be a large number of turtles visiting the golden beaches to nest and lay their eggs. Turtle conservation usually consists of saving turtle eggs and releasing them back to the ocean once they are hatched, educating the public on the dangers of polluting the beach, etc.
Dangers
Poaching for their eggs, shell and meat is the biggest contributor to the dying population. Turtles are also often caught in fishing nets or die after ingesting plastic and other waste dumped in the sea.
