Constructed on the grounds that housed the Royal Palace of Male in the 16th century, this park has, over the years, become both a visual and historical attraction. Here are some things that you need to know to make your visit to this park successful.
When to Visit
Sultan Park is a must-visit for travellers to the Nautilus Maldives or anyone exploring the city before leaving to their Maldives island resort. This well-maintained park is open year-round, but to experience its lush greenery at its best, it’s recommended to visit during the dry seasons between November and April.
Working Hours
Sultan Park is usually open from 6 am to 9:30 pm and it is advisable to visit the park in the early mornings or late evenings. If you are staying at a hotel nearby, ask the staff to pack a picnic basket to enjoy after your walk. But remember that there is a no-loitering policy.
Ticket Prices
While this park is free for the locals, it charges a nominal fee of USD 5 from foreigners. However, tickets are only available at the gate and cannot be purchased online.
What to Do
Sultan Park offers a peaceful oasis in the heart of Male, with plenty of benches and shaded areas to relax and enjoy the lush greenery. Visitors can also explore the park’s historic landmarks, including the National Museum and the 17th century Hukuru Miskiy mosque.
