One of the highlights of the Maldives is that it has so many islands to explore and those such as Dhigurah provide an amazing escape with beachside relaxation and adventures beneath the waves.
Getting There
The island of Dhigurah can be found in the South Ari Atoll and is around 110 km from the capital Male; local ferries and speedboat services are available. If staying at a Maldives beach resort on other islands you can look to plan a private excursion here.
Where to Stay
You will find several accommodation options on the island itself. However, you could also consider staying at private island resorts including the likes of The Residence Maldives Dhigurah which let you experience the underwater thrills associated with Dhigurah… more on that next!
Ocean Adventures
Dhigurah is famed for being one of the few destinations in the world where you can witness whale sharks the whole year-round. As you can imagine, snorkelling and diving are hugely popular activities and offer the chance of spotting other marine life too such as manta rays, sharks and sea turtles. Private resorts at nearby atolls also provide diving excursions to see these fascinating creatures of the deep.
Other Things to Do
The island is home to a special “bikini beach” where tourists can sunbathe, while there is another beach on the south tip worth visiting as well. The Dhigurah village itself is small and has a couple of local restaurants and some souvenir shops, ideal if you want to purchase some mementoes of your trip.
