The Maldives is one of the few destinations that opened for tourists last year and continues to provide safe and memorable holidays. If you still have concerns, here is what you need to know.
Safety Protocols
The country has strict health and safety protocols in place and was given the Safe Travels stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council. Before you can get to your Maldives beach villa, you will have to handover a negative PCR test certificate on arrival; the test should not have been taken more than 96 hours before arrival.
Private Islands
Each luxury resort is located on a private island which minimises outside contact. Properties like The Nautilus Maldives maintain comprehensive hygiene and cleanliness standards, observe health guidelines of local authorities and the World Health Organisation and even provide the option of buying out the entire island.
Tourism Initiatives
To encourage tourists, Maldives Border Miles was launched; the world’s first country-based loyalty programme, it gives members a chance to earn points when they visit and claim exclusive rewards. Additionally, a COVID-19 insurance plan (Allied Inbound & Allied Inbound Plus) is on offer for tourists as well.
Being Prepared
There are things you can do as well; this includes honestly filling out the Traveller Health Declaration (THD) which must be submitted within 24 hours before travel and installing the “TraceEkee” contact tracing smartphone app (Play Store / App Store) on arrival. You should also wear a facemask and maintain social distancing in public.
