The Maldives offers much to discover both on land and beneath the waves! Here are some places definitely worth exploring and experiencing on your holiday.
Male Island
An ideal spot for sightseeing, Male is the capital of the Maldives. Luxury resort options can be easily reached by seaplane from here, while those exploring the island can visit some key attractions; these include the Old Friday Mosque, Grand Friday Mosque and Islamic Centre, Tsunami Monument, Male Fish Market and National Museum.
Private Islands
This would be not so much a place to visit, but rather stay! Each resort is on a private island and one should ideally stay here and experience the best the country has to offer. For example, Kanifushi Island is home to Atmosphere Kanifushi, an all-inclusive resort offering beach and overwater villas, water sports, dining, excursions, spa rituals and more.
Anemone Thila
Those staying at a resort in the Lhaviyani Atoll have an ideal chance to go diving at Anemone Thila known for its vibrant beauty and differently sized anemones. Amidst this colourful underwater spectacle, you will also find marine species like clownfish, bluestripe snappers, crabs, trevallies and glassfish.
Hanifaru Bay
Over in the Baa Atoll, which is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, you will find Hanifaru Bay that becomes a hotspot for manta ray sightings from May to November. During this time, the abundance of plankton draws numerous manta rays well as whale sharks and one can snorkel beside them in the bay.
