Whether it’s a getaway or a honeymoon, when you’re visiting the gorgeous islands of the Maldives, it is best to be prepared. Want to know what you should remember when you visit here?
1) Speedboats are very important
Whether from Male or from any other island, you can take speedboats to other nearby capital islands in the surrounding atolls. These rides usually cost about $30 and leave infrequently, so it’s best to be precise. If you’re searching for a Maldives luxury resort, you’ll find plenty of great options around, like Kandolhu Maldives for instance.
2) Alcohol cannot be found
Since the Maldives is a Muslim country it is a given that alcohol cannot be found across the country. The only exception to this rule is the resort islands which can carry their own alcohol. (Do check in with your resort beforehand regarding their alcohol availability.)
3) Carry USD
While the Maldives does have its own currency, US dollars are accepted almost everywhere, sometimes paying with USD gets you better rates as well. It’s a good tip to carry both currencies with you and pay with whichever is cheaper.
4) The prices
Contrary to popular belief, the Maldives can actually be really affordable. You can generally get away with spending around $50 or $70 on yourself for food, ferries and activities every day.
