Faru
Faru refers to the reef that belongs to an island or the outer reef of an atoll. Most resorts like OBLU SELECT at Sangeli have reefs close by to be explored. This is possible by diving or snorkeling.
Giri
The Maldivian name ‘Giri’ refers to a reef that is circular and tends to reach the surface when the tide is low. this type of reef can be found inside big lagoons or inside atolls as well. It is very rich in marine life and is ideal for beginners at diving.
Thila
These are similar to Giri but is deeper in the ocean. They are much like seamounts with little peaks. It is abundant with marine life too, but the waters here are prone to be affected by strong currents.
