Local Maldivian delicacies are a treat for those travellers in the Maldives. With incredible fresh seafood and wonderful local produce, you can expect to be blown away by these local delights.
Bis Keemiya
This is a deep-fried, savoury delicacy that you need to tuck into! It’s the very best of pastry and spring rolled combined and is stuffed with a delicious egg and some sautéed cabbage and onions! It makes an ideal, afternoon snack, which you could order for nibbling poolside, from the privacy of your Maldives pool villa.
Boshi Mashuni
This salad combines some of Maldives’ finest produce – banana flowers, coconut and exotic spices! It’s fresh, healthy and has a bit of a kick from the lime and the chillies. Hotels such as Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas serve many local delights, giving their guests an exciting opportunity to foray into this unique Asian cuisine.
Garudhiya Soup and Huni Roshi
Garudhiya is an absolute favourite amongst the locals and pairs well with huni roshi, which is Maldivian flatbread. The hero of soup is tuna and it’s flavoured with curry leaves, garlic and onion! You can expect a fair amount of lime and chillies along with some deep-fried onions for a fun variation in texture.
Saagu Bondibai
Cleanse your palate with a cooling and refreshing sago pudding! Sago is cooked in thick coconut milk and infused with cardamom and rose, which gives it an incredible flavour and makes it very fragrant as well. It’s a lovely dessert that can be enjoyed warm or chilled.
