Travelling in a post-COVID19 environment will be a completely different face to that of travelling pre-coronavirus. In this article, we will attempt to look at how it might change and what we can expect as the world recovers from this severe pandemic.
The Sectors to Recover Slowly
The top three sectors that will be the last to recover are airlines, tourism and travel sectors. They were affected to almost zero per cent revenue due to the grounding off all flights and global lockdowns. But it appears that the tourism sector may recover faster than expected with many a Maldives luxury resort the likes of Hard Rock Hotel Maldives have started opening up.
Touchless Futures
The most immediate change in terms of travel would be the lack of touch. There is a massive risk of the virus spreading to travellers and staff at airports despite strict cleaning regimens so a no-touch policy of checking in will have to be adopted.
Digital Health Passports
All passengers will have to provide a digital health passport that signifies that they are not infected with COVID19.
A Digital Travel Diary
The extension of the digital health passport would be a digital travel log which should be able to do a contact trace of the traveller’s journey if they turn out to be COVID positive.
Collaboration is Key
Countries will have to work closer together in providing information across borders to quickly trace and intercept possible infection clusters.
